I first heard about electronic dancypants music producer guy, DatA from Paris, France through hearing the Pacific! remix of the song Rapture from his Rapture EP that could be very well considered a single since it was just the track with 2 remixes and a sequel. Alas, that was then and now is now– as DatA’s debut LP, Skywriter has been released (sadly, only in Europe) but should be in American soil and iTunes stores soon enough

This one goes out to all my fellow Virginia Beach heads. Nardwuar the Human Serviette from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada interviewed Pharrell and Shae from N*E*R*D. The interview is possibly one of the best interviews ever of all time. Canadian music channel, MUCH aired this interview and this interview/video alone just exemplifies just how bad our MTV really is. Nardwuar brings up Aladdin’s Castle, The Chuck Norris Karate Center in Timberlake (my hometurf), The Military Circle Mall, Edgar Cayce and other, you-have-to-of-lived-in-VB-to-really-know-about-it landmarks/happenings. I am as surprised as Pharrell is during the above interview right now.
All I’m going to say is that when he asked Pharrell afterward to ask Jay-Z for an interview, Pharrell emailed, texted and blew up Jay’s phone to get the guy an interview.

Part Rihanna‘s “Umbrella” (edit: Garageband loop, Vintage Funk Kit 03 slowed down to 90bpm, also used in “Umbrella”), part Jack Nitzsche‘s sountrack from John Carpenter‘s amazing film, “Starman“, part Notiorious B.I.G., 100% awesome. The video above is for Dan Black‘s new single, SYMPHONIES from his upcoming album, ((un)). The song was originally released as a cover of Biggie’s “Hypnotize” (which was also mentioned in the eariler Herb Alpert post. Funny coincidence.) but for clearance reasons could not be used as a single on Dan’s album due out July 7th by (edit: found out it’s A&M/Polydor UK, yet another coincidence.) Polydor UK. He reworked it so it could be on the album and the video above is what resulted. I suggest listening to the original cover track first before watching the video. BLKN 4 LYF.

Dumskeme Shomi should know better when it comes to DNS servers and Addon-Domiains, as videos in the Dumskeme Blog don’t play properly becasue the site is embedded in a giant frame. Frames went out of style before I hit puberty… so bring Dumskeme to the Shomillenium! Haha.
Shomi was invited last weekend to LA by the Clipse to film behind the scenes at the video shoot for their upcoming single off ‘Till The Casket Drops, “I’m Good” featuring hometown hero and superdupermegaultra producer, Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes. The above is the result of him coming back to Virginia and hopping on Final Cut.
I wouldn’t be here blogging/designing/creating at the level I am or with the friends & clients I’ve had opportunity working with/meeting without the support from Shomi, his colleges, the companies of theirs and those whom since moved on to start their own companies. It’s a blessing. Links are at the bottom of every page on The Cluh if you want to know more about who I’m talking about. So, how does one say “We’re Good” in Bangladesh?

Spike Jonze directed this video waaaay back in the mid 90’s. I was 7 or 8 when it came out but I still remember it from being played on MTV and The Box and recently (a few years ago), The Work of Director Spike Jonze DVD from Palm Pictures.
I also know of Mr. Jonze from his directing, filming and editing of the legendary skateboarding video masterpiece “Video Days” that came out in 1991 from Blind Skateboards feating the likes of Mark Gonzalez, Guy Mariano, Jason Lee and others. I first saw it as a 174px QuickTime video that circulated online during the early 2000’s and it was still damn good even when pixelated as fuck. He also is the co-founder of Girl Skateboards and does direction for their skateboard videos and also is an established Hollywood producer, actor and director with such movies as Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Synecdoche, New York, and the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are due out in October.
Okay, this post wasn’t really about the video, but the video is still a classic and the behind the scenes/commentary on the Spike Jonze DVD is definitely worth the purchase.

Fellow new-ATLien, J.O.N. and his brother, BoShangles produced the above comedy music video/behind the scenes for their song “Jelly” with cameos from Artykia, Bree, JDX, Maestro, Matty P, Muffy, Rock City, Sham, Soundz and Verse Simonds. The video is hilarious… I never would have thought PB&J would be inspiration for a song but as we know musically, ANYTHING can happen in ATL. That’s the truth.
Check out the site onthajon.com for more videos from J.O.N. and friends. Also be sure to comment, add them and all that if you fucks with their shit. I know I do.

This video was shot, edited and directed by my VA roommates/friends, Visually Inklined (Kory Smith & Tremayne Johnson) and Robert Simmons. They describe it as “(a) performance based video for Raleigh’s (NC) The Jeolousy Game (that) was done in one night on a rooftop garage in Downtown Norfolk (VA) (with) many of the lens flares and lighting effects created practically as camera tricks instead of being made digitally.”
I describe it as “why the fuck isn’t this video on MTV?“

I’ve been following this movie from sketch-comedy group, Derrick Comedy since the trailer appeared online back in September 2008 to it’s inclusion in the Sundance Film Festival and various screenings in LA & NY.
Last week, it was announced that Roadside Attractions will be putting it out in theaters this fall after a college promo-screening run late this summer with Lionsgate handing the DVD/Blu-Ray home releases.
If you haven’t pressed the play button on the video above, it’s strongly advised that you do.
Also, check out Derrick’s other videos at derrickcomedy.com.
