Mash-Up Monday #9: Party Ben – Shame (At Night) (Evelyn “Champagne” King vs. Kid Cudi)

eck_kc_s(at)_b_pb

It’s been awhile since I last posted a Mash-Up on a Monday. Anywayzzz, here’s a blend of Evelyn King‘s 1978 dance hit, Shame over Kid Cudi‘s 2007 (or ’08 or ’09) stoner hit, Day ‘n Nite brought together in perfect harmony by the self proclaimed ‘pop bastardizer’ Party Ben.

I call it “that old, new.”

B. Michelle – Don’t Hurt Me Again (Feat. M. Watts) (Video)

New video of Virginia Beach based R&B artist, B. Michelle featuring rapper M. Watts filmed with a really expensive pair of Oakley’s. Shouts to Kory and Treezy from Visually Inklined for knowing how to rock a sweet pair of shades.

Daniel Merriweather – Impossible (Video)

This track, from Australian R&B singer/songwriter Daniel Merriweather titled ‘Impossible‘ was produced by Mark Ronson. It sounds like it may contain sample(s) from the Zager and Evans song ‘In The Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus)‘ that was written in 1964, released independently in 1967 and released nationally in 1969. Either way, the song is a good listen.

I would have posted his song ‘Change‘ featuring Wale, but his stupid record label (J Records/Sony) disabled embedding of the video on YouTube. Seriously. I hate big record labels for doing stupid shit like that; especially since I was going to embed it to help promote Daniel and his new album, Love & War available in stores and online now. Click here to see the video for ‘Change’ as the major labels are run by paranoid old people whom do not understand modern methods of promotion.

KC – Outerspace Love (.mp3)

kc_stafford

Jordan “KC” Stafford lives in Aurora, Illinois, the same place Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar broadcast their show, Wayne’s World every Friday at 10:30 during the 1990’s. Like Wayne and Garth, KC is into music and very passionate about it. In the song below, titled Outerspace Love, he speaks of a girl and pretty much states that if she were a president, that she’d be Babebraham Lincoln …of the cosmos.

Excellent!

Joe Tann – More Than You Know & Night Life (Feat. Clipse) (.mp3’s)

joe_tann

Joe Tann is a writer, musician, producer and model of Korean descent from Richmond, Virginia. His music ranges from R&B, latin to jazz to hip-hop, pop, blues and beyond. The seasoned performer has opened for the likes of John Legend, The Roots, Nick Canon and also performed at Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration in NY in addition to MJ’s 45th Birthday Celebration in LA with Brian McKnight and The Temptations. For your downloading pleasure, from his debut album, Nothing To Lose, the song More Than You Know is a clubby 808-driven hip-hop ballad with a Neptunes-esque feel to it. Also for download from the same record, Tann’s debut single, the reggae infused club anthem Night Life featuring Clipse sounds like it’s straight out of the Miami’s South Beach night life.

Nardwuar interviews N*E*R*D – The Extended Version (Video)

This one goes out to all my fellow Virginia Beach heads. Nardwuar the Human Serviette from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada interviewed Pharrell and Shae from N*E*R*D. The interview is possibly one of the best interviews ever of all time. Canadian music channel, MUCH aired this interview and this interview/video alone just exemplifies just how bad our MTV really is. Nardwuar brings up Aladdin’s Castle, The Chuck Norris Karate Center in Timberlake (my hometurf), The Military Circle MallEdgar Cayce and other, you-have-to-of-lived-in-VB-to-really-know-about-it landmarks/happenings. I am as surprised as Pharrell is during the above interview right now.

All I’m going to say is that when he asked Pharrell afterward to ask Jay-Z for an interview, Pharrell emailed, texted and blew up Jay’s phone to get the guy an interview.

Oh Canada!

Rock City – PTFAO ‘Independence Day’ The Official Unofficial Album (Album) & Rep V.I. (.mp3)

ptfao_the_album

Independence feels so good, doesn’t it? Although signed to KonLive Records through Akon, singers/rappers/writers/brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas, known musically as Rock City couldn’t wait for their official album to be released– so they made their own and released it themselves! Just shows you that major-label signed artists can be independent too. Much respect. The album has features from Akon, B.O.B., Verse Simmonds and Lyric with production from Mad Scientist, Varsity Squad, Ghost, The Hipnotiks, Akon, Benny Haze and more.

Did I mention it’s free of charge?

Are Pure – Pay Your Child Support (Mixtape), The Shout Out (.mp3) & DownSide Up (Feat. Ced Hughes) (.mp3)

are_pure_is_pure

I hate calling compact discs & .zip/.rar/.torrent files with 12 to 20 songs on/in them “mixtapes” when they deserve to be called “albums”– especially when they don’t contain a DJ yelling after each track or annoying airhorn noises for the first 15 seconds of each song. Either way, the following download from Hartford, CT rap artist, writer and performer, Are Pure is one of those mixtape street album albums that deserves more than just being in your CD player or iPod. It’s that good; very polished stuff.

Pure’s message is great too– theres a song about slackers needing jobs, one about not spending your money stupidly, one about single mothers and beatings (‘gotta represent the single ladies holding it down for their kids!) and the title message “Pay Your Child Support.”

Not to get you thinking it’s just filled with conscious messages, the songs and production get more than just your mind moving. For example, the track “Pornstars & White Girls” over Busta Rhymes‘ “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” or the stand out track and radio ready (and not on that bull…), DownSide Up featuring Rebel-E and NC/VA representative, Ced Hughes. I can’t help but to bob my head to it and get visuals of a Hype Williams directed video in the vain of an old Busta video. Colorful.

Mash-Up Monday #3: Usher vs. Keyboard Cat – Play Him Off, In This Club (Video) & ABX – Billie “Wildcat” Jean (.mp3)

The Hood Internet (ABX & DJ STV SLV), Chicago, Illinois based DJs, producers and masher-uppers have been making really cool mash-ups for the last 3 years (at the least.) Their website is located on the internet at http://thehoodinternet.com.The song in the video is a mash of Usher‘s “Love In This Club” over the music of recent YouTube phenom, the late housecat and musician, Fatso (also known as “Keyboard Cat“.)

Below is another feline mash-up by ABX of The Hood, that combined Ratatat‘s ill instrumentals and geeetar riffs from their song “Wildcat” with the timeless vocals from the Michael Jackson classic, “Billie Jean” to form “Billy ‘Wildcat’ Jean“– kind of a post-humous a.k.a. naming for Mrs. Jean.

Also, I have more independent artistry and .mp3’s coming… I’ve been busy the last few days to appropriately research/compose meaningful write-ups for the artists and their musics. I haven’t forgot.
