The fastest we go is 172,800x, compressing 24 hours of real time into a blazing 1/2 second. The slowest is 1/32x speed, stretching a mere 1/2 second of real time into a whopping 16 seconds. This gives us a fastest to slowest ratio of 5.5 million. If you like averages, the average speed up factor of the band dancing is 270x. In total we shot 18 hours of the band dancing and 192 hours of LA skyline timelapse – over a million frames of video – and compressed it all down to 4 minutes and 30 seconds! Oh and don’t forget, it’s one continuous camera shot.

The end of ’09 saw Brooklyn based Body Language (www.myspace.com/bodylanguage) on a string of successful dates across North America with Zero 7 and while they were out Neon Gold and RCRD LBL premiered two of the hottest dance remixes of the year! They are also working on an official remix for Neon Indian‘s Should’ve Taken Acid With You.. keep you posted on that one.

Also, the two guys are a production/writing team (worked on Passion Pit‘s debut LP – Manners) and the band are dropping a remixed EP of their debut, Speaks, with treatment from the likes of Yes Giantess, Machinedrum, Shuttle, Toro Y Moi and more…

Electronic group, Pnuma Trio on 1320 Records, has teamed up with Conscious Alliance to help bring emergency food to communities most in need. Their recent performance, recorded at the 9,000+ person capacity Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside of Denver, Colorado (part of STS9‘s sold out Day Out Of Time Celebration) has been released online as a free download with 100% of all donations going to Conscious Alliance.

Phoenix is a band from France that I’ve just recently heard. Their current release, Wolfgang Amedeus Phoenix, on V2 Records/Loyauté was produced by Philippe Zdar of French house band, Cassius. Above is the first single Lisztomania mash-ed up with clips from the 1980′s movies Footloose, Mannequin and the John Hughes (R.I.P.) directed, The Breakfast Club & Pretty in Pink, which the band prefers over their ‘official‘ one. Below is the the trailer for the upcoming film, New York, I Love You directed by a billion and 1 people featuring the Phoenix song, 1901.

Independence feels so good, doesn’t it? Although signed to KonLive Records through Akon, singers/rappers/writers/brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas, known musically as Rock City couldn’t wait for their official album to be released– so they made their own and released it themselves! Just shows you that major-label signed artists can be independent too. Much respect. The album has features from Akon, B.O.B., Verse Simmonds and Lyric with production from Mad Scientist, Varsity Squad, Ghost, The Hipnotiks, Akon, Benny Haze and more.

Part Rihanna‘s “Umbrella” (edit: Garageband loop, Vintage Funk Kit 03 slowed down to 90bpm, also used in “Umbrella”), part Jack Nitzsche‘s sountrack from John Carpenter‘s amazing film, “Starman“, part Notiorious B.I.G., 100% awesome. The video above is for Dan Black‘s new single, SYMPHONIES from his upcoming album, ((un)). The song was originally released as a cover of Biggie’s “Hypnotize” (which was also mentioned in the eariler Herb Alpert post. Funny coincidence.) but for clearance reasons could not be used as a single on Dan’s album due out July 7th by (edit: found out it’s A&M/Polydor UK, yet another coincidence.) Polydor UK. He reworked it so it could be on the album and the video above is what resulted. I suggest listening to the original cover track first before watching the video. BLKN 4 LYF.

Herb Alpert is the man. He started A&M Records with Jerry Moss in 1962 (naming it that after they had found out Carnival Records was taken by another company.) A&M stands for “Alpert & Moss.” The A&M logo also pays homage to Alpert’s instrument of choice, the trumpet.

The label houses/housed musical acts such as Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass, George Benson, The Brothers Johnson, Al Green, The Human League, Toby Keith, The Carpenters, Quincy Jones, Joe Cocker, Cheech & Chong, Snow Patrol, Maroon 5, Bill Withers, The Black Eyed Peas, Shanice, Nazareth, Pussycat Dolls, Iggy Pop, Payolas, Queen (to A&M Canada), Sound Garden, Styx, Sex Pistols (only for a week though, right after EMI dropped them), Ike & Tina Turner, Atlantic Starr, MxPx, Mya, The Police, Sun Ra and Janet Jackson. You know, just to drop a few names.

Herb’s and his band, The Tijuana Brass did the title music for the original Casino Royal and Alpert is also the only artist ever to have placed five albums on the Billboard Pop Album Chart at the one time.

According to his Wikipedia article, “(His) musical accomplishments include five number one hits, twenty-eight albums on the Billboard charts, eight Grammy Awards,  fourteen Platinum albums and fifteen Gold albums (and) as of 1996, (he) had sold 72 million albums worldwide.”

The song featured in the video above, Rise was from his 1979 album of the same name won a Grammy and was sampled in the Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 song “Hypnotize.”
