KC – Outerspace Love (.mp3)

kc_stafford

Jordan “KC” Stafford lives in Aurora, Illinois, the same place Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar broadcast their show, Wayne’s World every Friday at 10:30 during the 1990’s. Like Wayne and Garth, KC is into music and very passionate about it. In the song below, titled Outerspace Love, he speaks of a girl and pretty much states that if she were a president, that she’d be Babebraham Lincoln …of the cosmos.

Excellent!

My Glorious2 (.mp3)

huh

This is what’s going to happen whenever I get an .mp3 of a good song that isn’t properly labeled. It’s hard to do a proper write-up without information such as the artist name, producer name, etc.

“Well, the guy rapping is dope and the song is called My Glorious2— check out this hot track produced by some guy.” – via a comment I wrote on Facebook.

Hip-Hop Confessions Episode 2 (Part 1)

Your favorite rappers favorite ghostwriter and Richmond, VA representative, Skillz gathered Pavar Snipe (producer for Norfolk, VA‘s 103JAMZ), DJ Babey Drew (Chris Brown‘s official DJ) and DJ B*Ryte for the latest edition of Mr. Skillz’s Hip-Hop Confessions series. Try and guess which of the 3 guests are not a fan of Prince, thought Camp Lo‘s “Luchini” came out last year and didn’t know Dr. Dre and Easy-E we’re in N.W.A.

Mash-Up Monday #5: CJ Milli – Every Time I Look For You the Dub Goes Down (Blink 182 vs. Pseudonympho/DJ Barletta)

blink_one_eighty_two

Saraquill demanded kindly suggested this track to me and it was her birthday yesterday, so I allowed it. Her friend, CJ MIlli mashed Blink 182‘s “Every Time I Look For You The Sun Goes Down” with the DJ Barletta remix to the song “Blow it (Up Your Nose)” from a person/band/group called Pseudonympho (…couldn’t find anything about it via Google.) CJ had made the track for her boyfriend for his birthday a few weeks ago.

Young Nigga This Is You

Another thought provoking message from Malice of the Clipse. He goes in on young hood cats, hustling, their dreams of rap and making it big– and how it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Hey young world.

Da Chip! The Music of Daft Punk Revisited on Vintage Game Systems (Album) + Bonus Tracks

da_chip_front

This tribute, titled Da Chip! is a project spearheaded by a French musician by the name Je deviens dj en 3 jours that consists of video game music (chiptune) inspired remakes of Daft Punk songs from various chiptune composers. It’s awesome; so awesome that I just danced to it in my room by myself for about 15 minutes straight but then again, I also have a soft spot for video games and chiptune music while also being a fan of Daft Punk. Outside of the links to download the tribute and the bonus tracks, I’ve selected a few tracks that can be listened to from this blog entry. The webpage for the project is located at http://jedeviensdjen3jours.com/dachip.

The first song I chose is from UK chiptune musician, Microchip‘s rendition of One More Time from DP’s Discovery album. It makes me feel nostalgic to the times I used to watch the skateboard video, Chomp On This (which happened to have somewhat a video game inspired theme to it, via it’s use of Pac Man imagery) everyday after school before going skateboarding.

The second track, covering Daft Punk’s Superheroes, from Spanish artist, Stage7 translates the Barry Manilow sample driven song into bleep-bloopy goodness. It also makes me think DP sampled the title track from the Super Nintendo game, Top Gear, for the bridge of the song even more. (Seems also the sound has also been used in the band Muse song Bliss.)

Joe Tann – More Than You Know & Night Life (Feat. Clipse) (.mp3’s)

joe_tann

Joe Tann is a writer, musician, producer and model of Korean descent from Richmond, Virginia. His music ranges from R&B, latin to jazz to hip-hop, pop, blues and beyond. The seasoned performer has opened for the likes of John Legend, The Roots, Nick Canon and also performed at Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration in NY in addition to MJ’s 45th Birthday Celebration in LA with Brian McKnight and The Temptations. For your downloading pleasure, from his debut album, Nothing To Lose, the song More Than You Know is a clubby 808-driven hip-hop ballad with a Neptunes-esque feel to it. Also for download from the same record, Tann’s debut single, the reggae infused club anthem Night Life featuring Clipse sounds like it’s straight out of the Miami’s South Beach night life.

Throwback Thursday #3: A Song Is Born (1948)

Professor Hobart Frisbee proclaimed “Gentlemen, I am an Idiot, an absolute idiot… do you realize that since we’ve been cooped up here that music has changed, and changed considerably. I’ve been completely unaware of this situation. However, I tend to rectify it immediately… gentlemen, I’m going out… out into the world, out of this house, out to tap the major sources of this new music.” then the other men in the room, all white save one, spurt out, “boojie-woojie?” “toobie-dixie?” “jum?” “jive?” “swing?” “blues?” “rhe-bobbety-boobity-bip?” “rhebop?

The 1948 film, A Song Is Born was produced by Samuel Goldwyn (the ‘G’ in MGM) and directed by influential director, Howard Hawks whom also directed the original Scarface produced by Hollywood legend Howard Hughes. The film starring Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo is a musical and Technicolor remake of the 1941 film, Ball of Fire with Gary Cooper. The plot focuses on a professor writing an encyclopedia about music with fellow scholars and are introduced to jazz by two black window washers Buck and Bubbles played by the performance group of the same name with Ford L. Buck and John W. ‘Bubbles’ Sublett (whom talent at dancing was the inspiration for Michael Jackson‘s naming of his famed pet chimpanzee.)

The movie also starred musical legends Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton and Benny Carter in addition to other other musical acts of the era. I haven’t actually seen the film yet, but I stumbled across it today on YouTube while researching Louis Armstrong. Anyone seriously into music definitely should see it. It’s available for viewing on YouTube and it can be purchased on DVD for relatively cheap on Amazon.com.

NITE CLUB – Good Life (Kanye Cover) (Video & .mp3) & Left Right (.mp3)

I had saw the video for Brooklyn, NY based Richard Spitzer, known musically as NITE CLUB and his cover of Kanye West’s “Good Life” from Poolsidesign and directed by Yuichi Uchida a few weeks ago, loved it then shot him an email requesting permission to post some .mp3’s on the site. He responded earlier today and gave me the ok– so enjoy the Kanye cover and the sure-to-make-you-move, “Left Right” from NITE CLUB’s new LP “My Tronic” available now in stores and on iTunes, guilt free!

Yui, Kaz, and I sat around and came up with this vision of dream chasing through the eyes of a cat . We follow his journey to create music that communicates with the universe. The schematic force that guides him combines life’s struggle with the euphoric feelings in harmony. Like this video, remaking ‘Good Life’ took me on a path that starts out on the street corner then ends up high the cosmos. Poolsidesigns use of animation and visual trickery bring about their own journey as the story continues. One love to Yeezy and Techno my cat for all the cool chords!

Geda DotEss – @ The Awards (Prod. Gabe Niles) (.mp3)

Geda-DotEss

Just to let you know in advance, the following track is an advertisement for the First Annual Prolific Award Show on August 22nd @ The Sandler Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Although it is an advertisement, it features a dope beat from Gabe Niles with talented MC, Geda DotEss spitting over it and mispronouncing The Cluh— no harm though! I almost feel guilty for calling it an advertisement. Check out http://prolificmusicgroup.com for more info on the award show and to vote.

Eminem – Beautiful (Video)

While I’ve never been the biggest fan of Eminem‘s early days, nor a fan of his antics, I have come to appreciate the emergence of his sensitive side lately. While fame and fortune often corrupt young artists, it seems to have taken Eminem the reverse route and somewhat normalized him. This may have something to do with raising a young daughter, or just could be a coming of age.

Beautiful” can be categorized with some of his toned down and sensible moments (i.e. peformance with Elton John, recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon – ironically the same night as a humbled Mike Tyson).

While the song may lack some of the better musical production that has graced Eminem, the message is probably one of the strongest and clearest Eminem has ever written. The video is a touching tribute to the people of DETROIT (and the state of Michigan). A city that has lost more jobs and gross product than some large countries have ever had to begin with.

Hang in there Detroit! America still loves you.

Nardwuar interviews N*E*R*D – The Extended Version (Video)

This one goes out to all my fellow Virginia Beach heads. Nardwuar the Human Serviette from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada interviewed Pharrell and Shae from N*E*R*D. The interview is possibly one of the best interviews ever of all time. Canadian music channel, MUCH aired this interview and this interview/video alone just exemplifies just how bad our MTV really is. Nardwuar brings up Aladdin’s Castle, The Chuck Norris Karate Center in Timberlake (my hometurf), The Military Circle MallEdgar Cayce and other, you-have-to-of-lived-in-VB-to-really-know-about-it landmarks/happenings. I am as surprised as Pharrell is during the above interview right now.

All I’m going to say is that when he asked Pharrell afterward to ask Jay-Z for an interview, Pharrell emailed, texted and blew up Jay’s phone to get the guy an interview.

Oh Canada!

The track is to be featured on an upcoming project from The Synth expected later this year. Also check out The Synth in this months HipHop Weeky and on MySpace at http://myspace.com/wearethesynth.

Also, this is not the final mix– so it had to be infected it with tags while it gets prepared for a proper release. Want to complain? There’s a comment button below.

Rock City – PTFAO ‘Independence Day’ The Official Unofficial Album (Album) & Rep V.I. (.mp3)

ptfao_the_album

Independence feels so good, doesn’t it? Although signed to KonLive Records through Akon, singers/rappers/writers/brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas, known musically as Rock City couldn’t wait for their official album to be released– so they made their own and released it themselves! Just shows you that major-label signed artists can be independent too. Much respect. The album has features from Akon, B.O.B., Verse Simmonds and Lyric with production from Mad Scientist, Varsity Squad, Ghost, The Hipnotiks, Akon, Benny Haze and more.

Did I mention it’s free of charge?
